Girls Soccer wins again

NEWINGTON — With the way the Newington girls soccer team was pressing the net, the Indians were hoping to jump out to a big lead over Southington Friday afternoon.

The offense didn’t produce as much as coach Adam Wilkinson would have liked but it got the Indians got the only goal they needed. Madison Lewicki scored in the first half and the Indians held on the rest of the way for a 1-0 victory over Southington.

“We could have put the game away in the first half but we allowed them to stay in it,” Wilkinson said. “A win is a win in the end.”

Lewicki took a feed from Julianna Santos in the box and placed it home to give the Indians (5-2) the final margin. The defense held off a resurgent Southington (2-4-1) squad in the second half.

“If you don’t concede goals, you don’t lose,” Wilkinson said.
